The University Catalogue was published by Yale College/Yale University under a variety of titles between 1813 and 1977. The scope of information in the catalogs increased as the institution expanded its academic offerings, student population, and campus. Over time the catalogs contain progressively more information about the academic life of the University.
In the first decade the catalogs list only names of students, faculty, and officers. Brief descriptions of terms of admission, titles of courses of instruction, and expenses first appear in the 1822/1823 catalog. The names of matriculated students last appear in the 1939/1940 catalog, and from that point forward the catalogs focus more on the academic offerings of the undergraduate college and graduate and professional schools of the University. Campus maps were included between the late 1880s and 1970/1971 catalogs. After 1976/1977 the university ceased publishing a unified single catalog.
