Abstract
Mutual effects of progressive wave motion in shallow water and in underlaying fluid sediments are discussed, with emphasis on modification of the surface wave. The mathematical model is a layer of inviscid fluid overlaying a viscous fluid of greater density and bounded by a horizontal rigid plane.
