Abstract
It is inferred from statistical theory that under 'stationary' conditions, i. e., in the course of periods during which the mean sea level remains stable, the average range of sea level for intervals of time of given lengths should vary linearly with the logarithm of the length of time interval. This is an asymptotic property, so that the logarithmic law of increase in range holds only if the intervals considered are relatively long....
