An experiment to determine the hydrodynamic forces on a cable inclined to the direction of flow
Abstract
The hydrodynamic force on a cable inclined to the direction of flow, though derived previously, is not widely known. A simple experiment is described which verifies the magnitude and direction of this force, showing that it is normal to the cable, not parallel to the flow.
