Abstract
A model for the vertical distribution of density, which approximates observed conditions in the equatorial Pacific Ocean, is presented. This consists of a homogeneous layer near the surf ace overlying a baroclinic medium wherein the density varies exponentially in such a manner as to approach a constant value with increasing depth.
