Abstract
Because of the large portion of the Earth that is covered by the oceans, the determination of accurate values of the geomagnetic elements at sea is a major objective in a world survey. It was not until 1905-1929 that realization of this objective was obtained through the ftystematic oceanic surveys sponsored by the Carnegie Institution of Washington through its Department of Terrestrial Magnetism....
