Abstract
When a horizontally infinite layer of fluid is subjected to a stabilizing salt gradient and to a destabilizing temperature gradient, the system becomes unstable for a sufficiently large value of the latter. The present analysis indicates that the system should become unstable to overstable or oscillatory perturbations when the disturbance is infinitesimal....
