This annual report was a combination of the fiscal years 1942 and 1943. In 1942, there were 12,852 patients treated and 13,120 patients treated in 1943. The average cost of a room was $8.67 per day in 1942 and $8.97 per day in 1943. Hospital services were slightly altered to accommodate the decreased staff size during the war. Volunteers and the Men Volunteer Corp. were able to fill in and help staff with patient care. The military took over a portion of the William Wirt Winchester Hospital on January 22, 1943. All employees were trained in preparation for potential disaster casualties, buildings were altered for air raids and plans were made in case of evacuations.
