Abstract

Observations with moored current meters and STD sections in the Jungfern Passage sill during February 1971 show inflow of 50 × 103 m3/sec; 5 km downstream, the entrainment of resident water has increased the volume flux by 40%. At times the inflow ceased; the current-meter records suggest a periodicity of ~ two weeks. The inflowing water at the sill is 0.25 to 0.3°C colder than the basin water at sill depth....
