The title of this annual report is “At the Turn of the Century.” This is the first in a trilogy of reports outlining the history of YNHH leading up to the hospitals 175th anniversary in 2001. The beginning of the report includes a page of milestones at YNHH and a brief comparison of the hospital of 1898 to that of 1998. Then and now comparisons include: surgery and medicine, transportation and technology, x-rays, laboratory medicine, pharmaceuticals, childbirth, pediatrics, nurses, allied health professionals, statistics, and war. The year-end message can be found on page 14. Managing to the Market (MTM) was initiated during the year to control cost and enhance quality of care.
